"Education that matters"
The International School of Bydgoszcz (ISOB) is an IB school. Its main mission and goal is to provide children with a better education by establishing a sense of independence, creativity, responsibility and, most importantly of all, international mindedness.
It is for this reason that ISOB focuses on giving students many cultural exchange opportunities and encourages projects that make them more open-minded.
More About UsThe core of engendering international mindedness in pupils is incorporating it into education. ISOB does this in a way that lets children grow as people and see a broader picture of what they’re learning. Each unit is introduced to students with reference to a global context, explaining how it connects to more general and global-scope ideas, as well as how concepts and topics taught at the school can be used outside of it.
In addition to this, ISOB inspires pupils to be more understanding and open through the IB Learner Profile. The IB learner profile has 10 attributes that all IB students should strive to have in order to become compassionate and productive adults. All of this comes together to create children that genuinely value other cultures and understand other people’s struggles.
Another essential part of education at ISOB are various projects done by students that develop new skills and intercultural understanding. At the end of PYP, students create an exhibition as a closing project, showing what they have learned and how they’ve grown. This G5 Exhibition provides many possibilities for self-expression, especially the expression of ideas, culture and traditions. This stimulates international mindedness and creates an exchange of thoughts.
In MYP, each year students do Service as Action projects, where they apply what they’re learning and create a meaningful impact on the world around them, not only on their local community, but also the wider global community as well. These projects aim to create self-directed inquiry within a global context and develop deeper understandings of the world.
ISOB takes great care in creating a learning environment where everyone feels included, no matter their race, religion, culture or nationality. Pupils are exposed to different ideas and people from a young age, meaning that they develop global awareness. ISOB students come from all over the world and everyone is heavily encouraged to share their traditions as well as experiences through projects, classroom incursions and gatherings.
Approaches to Learning skills are also heavily emphasized in ISOB. These skills encourage students to explore and learn independently, developing social, thinking, research, communication and self-management skills that allow them to learn effectively. It is precisely these skills that are used by students during their Personal Projects in grade 10. These projects involve pupils sharing their ideas, passions, hobbies and cultural heritage to others while also expressing themselves and creating plenty of opportunities for social as well as cultural exchange.
In summary, ISOB strives to give students a better understanding of other people, as well as a desire to inquire about the world around them. It develops international mindedness by emphasizing it in the education, promoting projects connected to open-mindedness and international action as well as creating an environment where everyone feels respected and equal. All of these factors add up to an education that doesn’t only teach students, but one that makes them better and more open people.
ISOB offers 3 IB programs: The Primary Year Program, The Middle Year Program and the Diploma Program.
